What Archie Gray’s father and grandfather have said about leaving Leeds United for Tottenham this summer.

Archie Gray has thoroughly settled into his new home in north London after leaving Leeds United for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 18-year-old midfielder is now in Tokyo, Japan, as Tottenham begin their pre-season tour of Asia.
Gray has already made a positive impression on people at Spurs, having moved up to a Premier League team from Leeds.

The teenager is anticipated to do well in the future, although Leeds did not suffer too much as a result of the transaction.

Along with a nice chunk of change, the Whites saw Joe Rodon return to Elland Road.

But now that the dust has calmed, Gray has revealed what his father told him when he first learned of Tottenham’s interest.

Gray, although being only 18, made an incredible 52 appearances for the Leeds first squad in all competitions. All 52 of them occurred during the 2023/24 season, when Gray rose to the first team ahead of Daniel Farke.

The kid has already made an impressive debut for Spurs, filling in at centre-back due to Ange Postecoglou’s present lack of choices.

Gray grew up through the ranks in Yorkshire, but it was clear that the move to Tottenham was a no-brainer for those in the Gray household.

During Tottenham’s Asian trip, the 18-year-old spoke with journalist Alasdair Gold about his move to the Lilywhites.

“At the start of the window, I didn’t really know anything about [a potential transfer anywhere], and I was content to stay at Leeds, but as soon as I heard Tottenham were coming in, I was like, ‘I need to go there’,” Gray said.

“It’s a massive club, and my father agreed. He came into my room one morning and said, ‘Look, you’ve got to go to Spurs. “It is a massive club.”

And it is clear that Gray’s father, who played 51 Premier League games for Leeds, Nottingham Forest, and Sunderland, was not the only one who supported the transfer to London.

Gray’s grandfather, Frank, who also played for Leeds in the 1970s, believed this was the best transfer for the child after he impressed at Elland Road.

“My grandad was saying it as well, he’s obviously done pretty well in his career, and he said at some point you’ve got to go to one of the biggest clubs in England and he thinks now is the right time and he thinks Spurs is a massive club as well,” says the 18-year-old.

Gray has yet to update his Instagram photo from his Leeds shirt, despite the fact that it is weeks after the switch.
