Chelsea’s decision to withdraw from the competition to recruit Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest has opened the door for Tottenham to sign the striker.
Mauricio Pochettino saw the 22-year-old as the answer to Chelsea’s offensive difficulties. The only established centre forward at Stamford Bridge is Nicolas Jackson because Christopher Nkunku won’t be back until December.Johnson would have provided Jackson with some much-needed assistance because the Blues have appeared goal-shy in their first three Premier League games.
But after expressing interest to Forest, Chelsea later withdrew from the competition to sign the Wales international.According to Sky Sports, Chelsea decided that Forest’s £50 million asking price for Johnson was too much.Spurs are now the only team left in the running to sign Johnson as Ange Postecoglou approved a contract for the forward as a result of that choice.
After Harry Kane left, the Australian wanted to step up his offensive, but Richarlison has failed to score this season.Spurs have £86 million following the sale of Kane, but it is uncertain whether they will meet Forest’s asking price.
