The seasoned defender was not named to the squad for tonight’s Championship showdown at the Hawthorns.
Due to an adductor injury, Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk missed tonight’s Championship match against West Bromwich Albion.
The Dutch central defender has emerged as a vital player for Daniel Farke, scoring in the last two Championship games, a 4-0 win over Ipswich Town and a 2-1 defeat to Preston North End on Boxing Day.
Farke had made Struijk his captain in recent months, but the injury prompted him to make the change tonight. Liam Cooper will accompany on-loan Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon in the Leeds defence this evening.
Struijk has started 22 of the Whites’ 24 Championship games so far, missing only the 2-1 win over Plymouth in November and coming off the bench in the game after that, a 1-1 draw with Rotherham United.
Farke does not expect the injury to keep the Dutchman out of the Leeds squad for long, with crucial games against Birmingham City and Cardiff City on the horizon, as well as an FA Cup third-round match against Peterborough United next weekend.
Struijk has scored five goals in 25 appearances for Leeds this season in all competitions, including two in the Carabao Cup and another in the 3-1 defeat to Southampton.
