Wilfried Gnonto’s continued campaign for Leeds United’s exit frustrates the 49ers.

According to the Athletic, the 49ers Enterprises have grown irritated with Wilfried Gnonto and his camp’s push to leave Leeds United this summer.

Phil Hay stated on Tuesday (22 August) that the new Elland Road owners are becoming unhappy with the timeliness of the demands.

The 19-year-old initially requested to be kept out of Leeds‘ Carabao Cup squad for a Carabao Cup match against Shrewsbury Town before refusing to play against Birmingham City and eventually submitting an official transfer request to the club hours before they met West Brom.

According to the Athletic, the 49ers Enterprises have grown irritated with Wilfried Gnonto and his camp’s push to leave Leeds United this summer.

“There is frustration within United’s hierarchy with the way Gnonto and his camp have handled the past couple of weeks, not least over things like the timing of his formal transfer request on the night of a match,” Hay wrote, explaining the ownership attitude on the transfer.

Gnonto‘s history as a coach made it highly likely that Farke would respond by excluding him from his squad.” In the past, the German has had almost little tolerance for anyone attempting to force their way out of a club.”

Bridges that have been destroyed

There has been considerable speculation since Gnonto‘s wish to depart Elland Road about whether he will be able to rejoin Farke‘s squad this summer, but it appears that the Italian has effectively burned his bridges in Yorkshire.

Leeds‘ new owners have been hands-on in their management of the club thus far, and with Gnonto having already irritated them with his actions this summer, they are unlikely to extend an olive branch to the winger.

For some fans, refusing to play for a club to which you are contracted is the worst thing you can do in order to force a transfer, and the timing of Gnonto‘s transfer request has understandably infuriated both the board and the fans.

Whether or not the Whites find a potential suitor before the transfer window closes, the 49ers have demonstrated that they will not be taken for fools during negotiations by continuing to wait for their valuation to be reached rather than allowing Gnonto to leave for a lower-than-market offer as a result of his actions.
