Tottenham Hotspur’s attempt to sign Lucas Bergvall from Djurgårdens IF in the current transfer window appears to be unsuccessful.
Spurs have been competing with Barcelona for the signature, and after visiting with both clubs, the player took some time deciding where to go.
Fotboll Skanalen provides an update on Bergvall’s condition, with Djurgårdens IF director Bosse Anderson confirming his stay for a few more months.
Without identifying Tottenham or Barcelona, the club’s president claims an agreement will be reached for the player to go in the summer, but his destination has yet to be announced.
“It’s fairly quiet on that subject. Then there was a lot of speculation, and you most likely saw the attention. There has been a lot of conjecture, and we have had formal negotiations with several top teams in Europe. Let’s see what happens. We are unaffected by the window shutting at midnight. We discussed that Lucas will play in Djurgården during the spring and then see which club he finishes up in.
“Lucas turns 18 tomorrow, which is a reason for signing a longer deal. As a result, we’re thinking about making a summer transfer. You do not need to wait for anything tonight. Lucas will continue to play football in Djurgården until the summer, which we expect to announce in February.
Journalists in Spain reported last week that Bergvall had picked Barcelona, but Football Skanalen remains confident that no one has won the race yet, with Tottenham still in the running.
With the confidence that nothing will be done before midnight, the player has more time to deliberate about his next location.
